About the artist—
James Moog is a largely self-taught painter from Saint Louis, MO. His abstract painting reflects his interest in the visual effects of color, the physical qualities of paint, and, by extension, painting as an experimental process.
He works both intuitively and analytically, as he paints instinctively. James builds up layers and scrapes them away to create pictures that allow colorful forms to expand and compress while seeking a balanced tension across the picture plane.
He works to create pictures that encourage the eye to wander and linger and to experience the painting as an emotional and visual drama.
